In 1933, in the middle of the Great Depression, Sears Roebuck launched a nationwide quilt contest. The winning quilts would hang at the Chicago Worlds Fair and the top prize was $1,000. In this one-day workshop, Joe will demonstrate and teach how to develop a small idea into an abstract quilt. Along the way he will teach the techniques he uses for freehand piecing, working with bias tape, and creating memorable compositions. The San Francisco Quilters Guild has a long history of making and donating quilts to organizations in San Francisco and the larger community. And this tradition continues in a new form while the pandemic prevents indoor gatherings.
