Open Options with Material Girlfriends
One of Material Girlfriends’ best-selling patterns, Open Options is a simplified version of a tradition New Hampshire Star. Starting with a beginner-friendly block, you can experiment with 14 different layout options. Your choice of fabric and layout can make your quilt as traditional or as modern as you like.

Indigo Shibori Dyeing with Joy-Lily
In this one-day workshop we will mix up a vat of pre-reduced indigo and use it to create dramatic blue-and-white patterns on natural fibers by using clamps, blocks, string, corks and other found objects. Bring small clothing items, pillowcases, table napkins and/or fat quarters of quilt fabric to dye. Watch your fabric turn blue like magic in the air as the indigo quickly oxidizes.
For more colorful effects, start with colored fabric. You can even bring your least favorite quilt fabrics and improve them, too. Overdye your blue work in a red or yellow dyebath for more complex patterns and colors.
Curves and Gentle Transitions with Silk & Salvage
Learn techniques favored by Sue Fox and Julia McLeod … AND … contribute to the guild’s 2021 opportunity quilt in this two-in-one workshop.
You’ll use donated silks to make “art parts” for our opportunity quilt. Keep going, if you like, with your own fabrics for your own art-parts projects. And come back at night! Participants (and others with silk experience) are welcome to stay on in the classroom, building components for the opportunity quilt.
Julia will guide students through the Grandmother’s Fan block using fabric-foundation piecing. She’ll also demonstrate how to draw your own foundation guide on fabric. Sue will show you how to build simple borders in three styles: basic Piano Keys plus two variations, Picket Fence in a Hurricane and Curving Boardwalk. Time permitting, she may also share a favorite block, Slip In a Strip.
